Hydrogen Sulfide Message to the Public
Please see the message below from the Director and Lead Toxicologist from the Florida Department of Health:
Apalachicola residents are advised that tap water is safe to use after being boiled for the purposes of drinking, handwashing prior to meal preparation, cooking, preparing baby formula, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing dishes.
Boiling water reduces hydrogen sulfide (H2S), and it is not possible to create hydrogen sulfide by boiling water.
Bottled water may also be used.
Bottled water is available at the Florida Department of Health in Franklin County. The health department has been providing cases to families with babies and young children. at 139 12th Street, Apalachicola, FL 32320
Additionally, residents have access to water trucks and ice trucks, which are listed on the City of Apalachicola’s website or their Facebook page.
